Frome 52 - Marlborough 15
Marlborough travelled to Frome on Saturday, still looking for their 1st win of the season.
Following several early season injuries sustained by the Marlborough squad and some impressive performances for the Nomads, Guy De Vos and Jack Lynd enjoyed debut appearances for the 1st XV.
Marlborough started brightly and were soon awarded a penalty in the home half which Alex Cox duly converted to take an early lead. This was extended when good counter attacking play instigated by Guy De Vos resulted in Laurence Baker making good use of space and linking up with Will Turner to score in the corner. Unfortunately the conversion was missed.
However by this stage the referee was beginning to influence the game in a somewhat disruptive and eccentric manner, and both teams suffered a series of questionable decisions, which ultimately resulted in 4 yellow cards in what was a good tempered match.
The visitors finished the 1st half with another try scored by Laurence Baker and Marlborough went into the break 15 - 0 up looking the more organized and attacking side.
The 2nd half however saw a massive turnaround in the home side performance. A lack of concentration from the whistle resulted in a good attacking scrum in Marlborough's 22, and sloppy defending resulted in a quickly worked try. Indeed this proved to be the story of the half with Marlborough never getting into the home 22. As the home side grew in confidence the visitors defensive weaknesses were exposed time and again. Individuals worked hard to stem the attacking flow, but poor decision making and missed tackles led to a 2nd half demolition.
The final scoreline of 52-15 didnít reflect the good work of the Marlborough team in the 1st half, but Frome certainly deservedly to take both the winning and bonus points from the game.
